The intricate, interwoven laws of the natural world, beyond human comprehension, shape the expressions of the "sea."
In Japan, there has been a deeply rooted belief since ancient times that gods reside in nature.
It's been about a year since I began photographing the Ocean Series, and recently I've realized that photographing nature itself is an act of touching a part of the divine.
Last year, when I began the first exhibition of the Ocean Series, I deeply struggled with whether or not to include explanatory text for each work. I decided it wasn't necessary, perhaps because deep down I knew that "phenomena revealed by the gods" need no name or explanation.
A true work of art speaks to you without the artist's words.
I aspire to be an artist who can create such works.

Naoto Yoshida
Born in 1994.
From a young age, he was interested in the world and began traveling alone in junior high school. After graduating from high school, he worked for a major foreign company but left after three years to embark on an indefinite period of wandering abroad. While searching for a way to express his experiences during his travels, he discovered photography. With international travel becoming difficult due to the pandemic, he began photographing the "sea" as a new subject while searching for a new theme.
