Group Exhibition of Part-time Artists

Continued: Everyday Life Exhibition ~Things I do in my free time~
May 3rd (Fri) - May 6th (Mon), 2024
12:00 - 19:00
The last day is until 6 PM.

Are you using time for yourself?

"Everyday life"—working, playing, eating, sleeping—all these things are important to us. But these are just ordinary, necessary daily routines, and many people spend their days in a hectic rush.

In such a daily life, it can be quite a chore to turn those unexpected free moments into "time for oneself." We might end up scrolling through social media or just lounging around. While those times are important, it's also crucial to release the information we absorb daily. This exhibition features artists who engage in creative activities during their free time amidst their daily lives.

They dedicate those unexpected free moments to outputting their work, not through strict discipline, but through moderate creative activity, using that time to bring out something within themselves. Perhaps it's not about creation, but about expressing something. By creating their own unique value, they can make the most of their ordinary daily lives. This exhibition is being held during the Golden Week holidays, ensuring it won't interfere with daily work.

I love European, Asian, and Japanese antiques, and I whimsically make pouches, small bags, and other items using scraps of fabric. Therefore, most of them are one-of-a-kind. Recently, I've also been creating animal characters such as cats, foxes, dogs, and bears. I'm challenging myself to see how much of the fabric scraps I can use without waste.

I became interested in clothing design in junior high school, and in high school, I spontaneously held a fashion show with friends at the school festival. After graduating from the Bunka Fashion College's Fashion Design Department, I joined the production department of a certain apparel company in 2006. In between busy seasons, I make time for myself to work on my creations. I named myself nu\co (Nuiko), combining "seamstress" and my own name, "nu" and "ko."

Born on July 1st, 2021, at my home! Whether it was an exciting and fun day or a slightly sad one, I started a picture diary, always "drawing with paint." Then, I mustered the courage to show my drawings to an acquaintance... and I was invited to exhibit at an event! Before I knew it, my life was filled with happiness and luck!

As a child, I loved music and art. After becoming an adult, I came across some lovely pastel-colored paints, and that inspired me to make time for myself to paint on canvas with acrylics.

My MacBook has a folder called "DAILY." The photos in it are just ordinary pictures I take in my daily life. The pea sprouts go their own way, and the flame of my Zippo lighter is straight and sharp as if someone told it to be. Looking out the window, I see the sunlight streaming into the house next door. Right next to me are my wife and our free-roaming Java sparrow. The surface of the sea reveals something else. Today, once again, the DAILY folder is updated. I look at it, smile a little, and close my MacBook. From my childhood until graduating from university, I dedicated my mind and body to swimming, and later joined a commercial production company. In the advertising industry I had always admired, I got to work on video production, which I had always loved, and learned the basics of video production. While interacting with creators on a daily basis, my desire to hold a camera in my own hands grew stronger, and I decided to aim to become a photographer, studying under Ryohei Takanashi. Using various things I encounter as motifs, I create works that have a texture somewhere between painting and photography. @wajun_desu

Using a variety of art materials and a unique style, I primarily paint portraits.
It all started unexpectedly. It's always been that way. I'm not being guided, but I'm not being swept along either. It's neither coincidence, nor inevitability, nor fate. I just think that's how everyone lives. When I work hard, persevere, and manage to secure time for myself, I can create my own work.

When I'm tired and stressed, I do nothing.

I watch movies, drink coffee, and sometimes even travel.

I love travel, coffee, and sneakers.

Playki
Accessories

Time spent alone, time spent with others,
time spent working or doing housework,
to make all time fun and playful

That's the sentiment behind the shop name.

Based on new discoveries made during my dual life (living in two locations) between the mainland and the island, I create cute knit goods and beaded accessories.

I hope the joy of making each item spreads, bringing more excitement and smiles to everyday life.
